Unlocking $1 trillion in reparative giving over the next 10 years.

Reparative giving transforms communities and donors alike. For the next ten years we're laser focused on massively increasing the flow of resources toward economic solidarity, climate and land justice, and wellbeing—because these are the pathways to a world where we connect, relate, and belong.

WHY $1 Trillion

Because we can't afford not to. The cost of ignoring ongoing harms far exceeds this figure.

FAQ

  • Why $1 trillion? Isn't that impossible?

It's not just possible—it's necessary and achievable.

The economic cost of ignoring racial inequity has already reached $51 trillion in lost output since 1990 (World Economic Forum, 2021). Meanwhile, we're sitting on unprecedented wealth: philanthropy holds $1.6 trillion in foundation assets (Nonprofit Times, 2025), and we're in the middle of the largest wealth transfer in history—$84 trillion expected to change hands through 2045 (Cerulli, 2022).

To put this in perspective, the 19 richest U.S. households alone created $1 trillion in new wealth just last year (Wall Street Journal, 2025). The resources exist and they're growing rapidly. What's been missing is the will to move them toward healing historical harms rather than letting them accumulate in investment accounts.

Our $1 trillion Moonshot represents less than 2% of the total wealth transfer happening over the next two decades, and a fraction of what philanthropy already controls. We're not asking for the impossible—we're asking for what justice demands and what the moment requires.

  •
What kinds of giving count toward the $1 trillion goal?

We're tracking DWP-influenced reparative giving that flows directly to communities most impacted by systemic harm. This includes the $700+ million we've already influenced since 2018 through our direct work with donors, foundations, and wealth holders.

Moving forward, we'll count contributions that result from our consulting, training programs, and transformative donor experiences, as well as giving that people tell us was inspired by our work.
We'll also count public dollars influenced as a result of our investment in advocacy efforts led by our grantee partners across all of our funds.

This is a collective effort that includes individuals, corporations, institutional philanthropy and beyond.

If our work has influenced your giving decisions, we want to hear from you! There's a form in the 'Get Involved' section where you can share your reparative giving story and the amount we've helped unlock.

We'll be partnering with independent evaluators to create a transparent tracking system, with annual progress reports to keep us all accountable to this ambitious goal. Stay tuned for more details!

  • What do you mean by reparative giving/Reparative philanthropy, and how can I learn more?

Start with our Reparative Philanthropy framework, which breaks down our approach to turning money into medicine for healing historical harms.

If you're ready to go deeper, we offer transformative experiences for individuals, teams, and boards—from intensive workshops to personalized giving journeys.

Contact us at info@decolonizingwealth.com to explore what's right for you.

  • How can I/my organization get involved?

We're building a movement, and there's a place for everyone who believes wealth should heal rather than harm.

In our 'Get Involved' section, you'll find three pathways designed to meet you where you are on your journey—whether you're new to reparative giving, ready to deepen your practice, or looking to transform how your organization moves money.

Choose one path or explore them all.

  • Does giving to an organization other than DWP count?

Yes, it can! We're building a movement, not just funding our own work. We encourage reparative giving wherever it flows—what matters is that resources reach communities most impacted by colonization and systemic harm.

If your giving aligns with our Reparative Philanthropy framework and you've been inspired by our work, we want to celebrate that impact and potentially include it in our collective progress toward $1 trillion.

Complete the "Share Your Reparative Giving" form in the 'Get Involved' section of this page to tell us about your journey and help us track this Moonshot’s impact.
